The Dental Checkup: What to Expect

At each check-up, your dentist will:

  • Examine your teeth, gums and mouth.

  • Ask about your general health, your medical history and any problems you’ve had with your teeth, mouth or gums since your last visit.

  • Ask about, and give you advice on, your diet, smoking and alcohol use, and teeth-cleaning habits.

  • Take dental X-Rays. Digital X-Rays are necessary to examine position and condition of teeth, are necessary to monitor crown and root development, are necessary to detect tooth decay and abscess, to examine extent of infection, response to medication and healing, monitor alignment and occlusion of teeth detect gum diseases. They provide valuable information that your dentist could not collect otherwise

  • Discuss a date for your next visit.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO VISIT US EVERY 3 OR 6 MONTHS FOR A DENTAL CHECK UP BASED ON DR. KELKAR'S RECOMMENDATION.

Tell Dr. Kelkar about your overall health, especially if you have had any recent illnesses or have any chronic conditions. Provide a health history including medication use, both prescription and over-the-counter products, and let us know when there are changes.

Also, if you smoke, talk to Dr. Kelkar about options to quit smoking. This will help ensure that you get the most complete and appropriate care.
