Root Canal Therapy:

When the decayed tooth is not attended to in time, the infection spreads inside the tooth and gets carried to the tip of the root.

The infection then breaks open the bone wall at the tip of the root and gets accumulated in the form of pus. Sometimes such tooth aches when tapped.

Such a tooth has to be cleaned and filled by a special filling material till the tip of the root.  This method of saving the tooth is called 'Root Canal Treatment'.

In cases where the nerve is vital and the tooth is painful, the area is made numb with the use of a local anaesthesia.

By using drills, the decayed part of the tooth is removed and the access cavity is prepared to remove damaged pulp and nerve tissue.

The pus gets drained out.

The walls of the root canal are then smoothened with the help of special 'FILING' instruments, to accommodate the filling material.

The canal is then irrigated with medicines.  Dressings of medicine are given till the canal becomes totally free from infection.

The Root canal is then filled by a special filling material.

The damaged portion of the tooth is then filled and restored with permanent filling material.

In 6 to 8 weeks time, the repair takes place at the tip of the root.

After root canal filling, the tooth becomes as good as a normal tooth.
